Twitter, Instagram, or ...?

As I was reading @technoglot 's recap of one of the sessions of the last Hashnode bootcamp I started wondering, What is the best social platform for software engineers to engage with each other?

Which is the platform where developers, designers, and everyone in tech have the floor to share their projects and views on specific topics? (Besides dev.to of course)

I personally use Instagram on a daily basis, and to be honest, I don't think it is ideal for sharing projects or having a discussion. It's more suitable to share short informative posts. Twitter is where I see most developers tweeting their hearts away, but I find its UI too cluttered and that makes it difficult to follow a thread.

What are your views on the different social media out there for developers? Which ones do you personally use and enjoy?

And drop your handles, let's connect!✌

I feel the same as you! Twitter seems like the place where developers hang out the most, but I really don't like its UI or the tweet format in general. I feel like it's hard to have a genuine conversation about something on a platform that encourages tiny, sound-bite-like messages.

That's why I've been hanging out on dev.to lately. It feels like the best "social media" platform for developers, mostly because it's literally targeted at developers. I've had way better interactions with people on here than on any other social media site. I've actually stopped using most social media altogether, and it's really improved my mental health!

It's also nice that the community here is relatively small. I see the same people pop up frequently (like you and Amelia). It's much easier to have a conversation with someone when I know I'll see their name again soon!

Yeah, totally agree. At least they introduced spaces now, let's see how that helps with having a conversation on Twitter.

Good stuff! good to hear that for some people getting off these platforms actually make a change.

What I dislike is how the algorithms decide who gets noticed and who doesn't.

Gotta agree with that. Algos rule the world of social media.

If all else fails, you can always build your own, LOL! πŸ˜œπŸ˜‚

Hahaha sounds like a fun project. I wonder who would pick something like that up.

Thanks for your comment, Happy Friday to you too!🍻

I use Twitter mostly for sharing work related things, Instagram is where I try and connect with people on a more personal level and let my personality shine a bit more.
