Hi again! :)

I just finished my first 3 weeks as a Software Engineer. Woohoo! Here is my experience so far in 10 quotes and emojis! πŸ‘©β€πŸ’»

1 πŸ‘©β€πŸ’»πŸ€© "I'm so excited, I can't sleep!. 😴Hey, get to sleep already! You need to be fresh for tomorrow!" πŸ‘©β€πŸ’»πŸ€© "Awwww....but I'm too excited!"

2 πŸ’ƒ"Oooo....how does a Microsoft Surface Pro even work? What's this flappy thing at the back?"

3 "Hello Microsoft Windows, haven't used you in a while!...Windows Update!!! πŸ˜‚"

4 "πŸ€“ C# is so cool!!!! I finally get to use a static programming language!"

*Goes to build solution = ERROR ; expected

AHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!! πŸ‘Ώ

5 "Let's get this code out! Deployment, what can possibly go wrong with the build and deployment pipeline? πŸš€"

Deployment fails....arghhhhhh!!!!! 😑

Goes into ultra mode to fix issue πŸ’ͺ

Deployment passed - yipppeeee!!! 😎

6 "It works, it actually works!!! Oh yeah!! Ice cream time!" πŸ¦πŸ™ŒπŸΌπŸ˜ƒ

7 "I can figure this out....I can figure this out...should I ask for help? πŸ€”Nah, I can figure this out...I can figure this out....oh man....I NEEEDDD HELP!!! SOMEONE HELP!!"

8 "How have I not used Visual Studio IDE before? It's A-M-A-Z-I-N-G!!" πŸ’»

9 "Am I meant to be here? I don't have a clue what's going on. Damn...I'm actually writing code!" 🎊

10 "Wow, I've learnt so much! How did all of this happen?" 😊

Final Thoughts

As you can see, a lot of ups and downs, but I'm absolutely loving it! :)

Congrats on the new role! I can totally relate to number 9. I’ve been writing code for a while now and I still have days where I think β€œI don’t have a clue what’s going on”. On others days though, it’s just the opposite and i’m an unstoppable code ninja and everything compiles first time. Just keep your enthusiasm and you’ll do great!

Thanks Grant - I had one of those days today where everything just came into place with the unit and integration tests :) Totally worth it though :)

Glad to see another C# lover. Maybe can we see a post on what you like more (or you discover) about VS, C#, and .Net?

Hate to break it you Kim, but you are not a software engineer just because you did a "fast-track" course to web development.

Are the people that operation machines at the steel factories engineers? No they are not, so why is it any different in this industry?

Hi Guy, I’m sorry you think this way. It is such a shame. I am doing a fellowship programme which is a 12 month long programme where I learn on the job. This doesn’t make me less of a software engineer. I have been working in software teams for a while and have a background in climate modelling and enjoy the nature of the role. I think a lot of people don’t know their full potential unless they have the opportunity to do so. I was fortunate to have this opportunity and take it as it comes :)

Congrats, Kim! Your enthusiasm and positive attitude for your new job and the challenges that come with it -- even in the face of unfounded negativity -- are impressive. Best of luck to you.
