Great article I especially agree with number 1. When I first started I was anonymous and hid away because I am an introvert πŸ™ˆ That was a huge mistake and my career started to blossom when I became active on social media and the blog platforms.

Nice! Yes, I'm also an introvert, but in this area you gotta network and know some people around! Glad you agree!

Your number 1 point resonates with me. As someone who tends to stay out of the spotlight, the thought of stepping out and increasing my visibility is nerve-wracking. I know it is necessary to get ahead in this career but that doesn’t make it any less anxiety-inducing. I have been taking steps to overcome this; that is part of why I joined this forum. I expect that, over time, this will become easier and more natural. Thanks for a great article.

You don't need to do all the things I said! If doing it all feels too overwhelming at first focus on just making your LinkedIn reflect what you're doing/studying and what you're interested in. Then focus on the GitHub one. For these two you don't need to necessarily interact with other people but are good ways of helping people to find you! And when you feel less anxious go look for other places/people! One step at time! You're doing great! Thank you a lot for your comment and for gathering the courage to share! If I can help with anything, reach out!

I really lke #5, "You'll never get smarter alone" but the current opportunity I have is to try to continue building my skills so that I can actually reach out to others.

It's a challenge as a newbie, but I know with practice and time it will come.

Hey @warlita in the beginning our path is very "solo" for some time when we're self-taught, I had that too! But if you can find a community or a discord, a free workshop where people help each other it will help you grow a lot faster. Helping others is a great way to also learn more and deeply understand certain aspects! And some workshops don't require that you be anything more than a beginner! Take advantage of these opportunities if you can! You can always reach out to me or other developers over on twitter if you need help too!

I'm a Lead Front End Dev with over 15 years in, and unfortunately Imposter Syndrome is the gift that keeps on giving ... Just be kind to yourself and know that you are an integral part of the team. ❀️

Thank you! Yes, I heard from a lot of people that it's something that never goes away, which is really sad, but I hope we can feel more confident in our abilities with each passing day, even if those abilities are just "I know how to learn". Thank you for commenting!

I like #5: "You'll never get smarter alone"
I find myself doing a lot of study on my own and my analogy is this:
When you're learning something new alone it's like climbing a sheer wall but when you learn from others it's like they're throwing you a rope from the top. It's so much more efficient to learn from others. When I make it into tech I'll always toss the rope down.

After almost 8 years I still have imposter syndrome from time to time. I wonder if it will ever go away πŸ˜…
