SADNESS! Waffle.io is going shut down on May 16, 2019.
Things I very much enjoyed about Waffle.io
- With pancakes (Sequel Pro) I had a whole breakfast thing going on!
- It pulled issues straight from GitHub repos so we had one source of truth for issues
- It was very simple to use
I've been looking for a waffle.io replacement and, so far, I'm not seeing anything that is quite like it.
Aside from building a replacement Waffle.io app (Bacon.io? Syrup.io? Augh, both are taken.) what would you recommend I try out?

If you're looking for a simple tracker built into GitHub Issues, I'd strongly recommend checking out ZenHub (zenhub.com). If you're coming from Waffle.io, ZenHub offers a lot of familiar features like Epics, Multi-repo Boards, Issue-PR linking, and Agile Reports. ZenHub even provides a browser extension so that you can work directly from GitHub (no context switching to other apps or systems).
If you're looking for something even more lightweight, I'd recommend taking a look at Github Projects.

Our company recently switched from Waffle.io to Clubhouse.io and it's been a wonderful experience. Clubhouse has integrations with Github so you can link commits and PRs to stories, but it would mean switching to stories in Clubhouse being your source of truth. It is a very powerful tool yet very simple to use.
Thank you! I believe one of our teams tested out Clubhouse.io in the past and if all our teams are willing to shift our source of truth it is a contender!
I never used Waffle so I don't know how good of a replacement this is, but GitKraken Glo might interest you. It works mostly like GitHub Projects with more detail, and syncs with GitHub Issues.

I've evaluated a LOT of alternatives. ZenHub is probably the most powerful but is not practical for us as it keeps all its state and metadata in ZenHub, rather than embedding it into the GitHub issues as Waffle does. Because we have a large team, its impractical for us to get every team member to install ZenHub's browser extension, whereas following a few simple procedures (choosing labels or using keywords in issue descriptions) allowed us to have the bare minimum of detail hidden from bare GitHub users.
The best alternative so far I've found is Codetree codetree.com which includes almost all of the key Waffle functionality and which uses GitHub issue tags to control the process of an issue across the board. Pricing is pretty reasonable.

If you didn't find a good alternative right now, you could also have a look at Wuffle. It's open source, offers most of the features Waffle.io did and it's very fast 👍
