Music – A Fabulous Educational Tool for Your Child

Songs and music are a fabulous educational tool for your child. In fact, singing songs with your child is a great source of joy for the family. Singing helps the child to build the skill of matching tones and keep a steady rhythm with different volume and speed. With songs, they are able to express their emotions with their voice as singing helps them to build intonation and tone. 

Improve spatial and mathematical skills

Songs help children improve spatial and mathematical skills for kids. Those children that take music lessons on a regular basis score higher grades in mathematics tests. Songs and music improve the cognitive development of the brain and help it to understand pattern recognition, organization, time, counting and the division of large notes into small notes like fractions.

Songs improve the emotional intelligence of the child

Babies often find comfort and security with songs. This is why child experts say that it is prudent for parents to sing often to small babies who are still new to the world. Babies do not like change, and they feel very comfortable if life for them is predictable. Therefore, parents should sing to them often, for instance, one song can be sung to the child when he/she wakes up, another song for bedtime, one for a bath, etc. Songs can also be used for transition from one activity to another.

Fostering emotional attachment

Child specialists suggest parents should sing to their children often as it fosters emotional attachment.  Babies can hear sounds in the womb. This is why they are quite familiar with the voices of their parents. Child experts say that you should sing to your baby even when it is inside the mother’s womb. Though it might seem awkward for you to sing to a baby while it is in the womb, you actually will be introducing your child to the magical world of music.

Last but not least, not a parent, you are the first teacher for your child. The home environment plays a vital role when it comes to the brain development of a child. Songs and music bring a lot of fun and entertainment in the learning process, and this is why it should always be an integral part of your child's life with success!
