✨ How to Prove and Demonstrate your Skills? ✨

People sometimes feel lonely, helpless, and useless, but just because they forget what's the biggest strength they have - us, and our strength is community!

However, to get something, you must give something. One of the ways is contributing to the open-source community.

Join the Open Source Community

The contributions to open-source can be an amazing learning experience and becoming a part of the community allows building valuable open-source software.Contributions can be immensely rewarding for example (most popular) have a profile with proof of your skills for your next full-time work.

In addition to showing technical chops, these contributions may also demonstrate a commitment to open source which will be valued by others sharing that commitment. For most at the junior and intermediate level, contributions make up a tiny fraction (if any) of their GitHub activity.

Get started with contributions

Without further ado - here is my repository with an issue, it doesn't have a pretty description, but contains all details required. (a real-world example).

https://github.com/z-shell/zw/issues/101

Short overview

  1. Comment on an issue, and it will be assigned to you.

  2. Start working on the issue. Do it on your on phase it don't have to be fast - it has to be correct.

  3. After you have solved the issue, make a pull request.

  4. Wait for the feedback because the pull request might need to collaborate and be patient till your pull request gets merged.

  5. Celebrate! because you just made your successful open source contribution! 🎉

I will add you to the website contributors list list.

Now you have proof which can be shared or presented in many ways, in other words your contribution is done can provided to anyone until the repository disappears, even in this event there are many archives where can be discovered.

If you will need help on how to pin point specific tasks and get all links, just mention this in your comment, and I help you.

Note: this website is part of my GOSS project (will mention below) and it will accessible in many countries and different technologies, e.g:

And many more.

Don't worry if you will be skilled enough to solve the issue and if have additional questions or simply need support. I'll try to help you. Make your comments on an issue or areas in question.

What's next

The Open Source is great, but don't forget that we are the ones who made it! So let's keep it great or even better - make it greater. :)

  • If you liked experience and want to contribute more, take a look at GitHub topic good first issue or goodfirstissue.dev

  • I started a project GOSS (Global Open Source Society) which target is to connect developers across the world, search and research issues to create solutions. If you liked this post or want participate follow me on Twitter, GitHub so you be able to find it when it's public.

  • If you are a Chinese reader and have some questions about Gitee and GitHub. Both projects can support each other, join https://www.reddit.com/r/gitee/ so we can coordinate it.
