3 Ways AI helps World fight against COVID-19 Pandemic

In just a few weeks, the pandemic has completely agitated the normal way of living. The lockdown situation all over the world has closed the doors of businesses and transitioned to the “work from home” system. The pandemic is not going to end soon and it is giving birth to various challenges that required operational revamping to cope up with them in an effective manner without compromising any aspect of work. Among all the hype, technology is playing its role to make the situation bearable and under control amid the pandemic. Artificial Intelligence in combination with other technologies is contributing to deal with the hurdles through innovative solutions and strategies. The following are some ways in which AI can help the world fight against the uninvited challenges of COVID-19 outbreak:

Prediction of disease spread

Coronavirus does not have any cure or vaccine till now and it is been said that it will take longer to come up with a definitive antidote. However, the need of the moment is to do what is possible and can help control the situation. As per the instructions of the World Health Organization (WHO), social-distancing measures should be taken to curb the spread. AI thus helps predict the spread of the virus to the areas where it is hard to estimate the virus spread level to get an overview and risk perception.

The AI-powered survey system is been developed in Israel by the Weizmann Institute of Science. The project aims at predicting the pandemic outbreaks in a better way so that the organizations and upper authorities could take in place proactive measures that could help mitigate the spread of the virus. In this system, a questionnaire is used which takes into consideration the key issues and symptoms such as health symptoms, measures, isolation practices. Based on this information the system matches the collected responses against an algorithm that is location-based. The collected data is then analyzed based on the AI algorithms that identify the potentials spread risks in advance and ultimately give authorities insight into the next appropriate measures that can help slow down the spread of the virus.

AI mitigates the digital fraud rate in the cyberspace

As the businesses have shifted to a digital environment to continue their operations. Amid COVID-19, there is a significant increase in the ratio of digital transactions. However, this spike in digital activities has given rise to certain cyberattacks and digital payment scams. To cope with the secondary pandemic challenges, AI companies are gearing up and providing innovative solutions to online platforms to help them secure their accounts from hackers and fraudulent access. The strong authentication mechanisms in online platforms are employed. AI-powered facial recognition systems are adopted by the digital banking and payment services providers to ensure controlled access over online user accounts to mitigate the risk of account takeover frauds, identity theft, high-scale data breaches, phishing attacks, and similar cyberattacks. The liveness detection feature of the facial biometric authentication system fights against the spoofing attempts of bad actors. It makes sure that the user showing a printed or photoshopped image does not get authorized. The intelligent technology looks for the minor facial movements of the user to make sure that the user is present physically at the verification time.

Fights misinformation spread

The digital space is under the threat of spreading misinformation amid the pandemic. AI helps fight against unfortunate circumstances and instead of human content moderators, the digital world now employs AI-based machine learning tools now detect the misinformation cases and combat them in order to stop the spread. It backtracks the origin and removes it to keep the pace of the digital safe from wrong news.
