Create a bootable (Ubuntu) USB stick with Rufus on Windows

Creating a bootable Ubuntu USB drive using Windows is a simple process that can be done in just a few steps. Here's a step-by-step guide on how to do it:

  1. Download the Ubuntu ISO file from the official Ubuntu website. Make sure to download the correct version for your computer's architecture (32-bit or 64-bit).

  2. Insert a USB drive with at least 2GB of free space into your Windows computer.

  3. Download and install a software called Rufus. It is a free and open-source tool that allows you to create bootable USB drives.

  4. Open Rufus and select the USB drive you want to use from the "Device" drop-down menu.

  5. Under "Boot selection," click the "Select" button and navigate to the location where you saved the Ubuntu ISO file.

  6. Under "Partition scheme," select "MBR" if your computer uses BIOS or "GPT" if it uses UEFI.

  7. Under "File system," select "FAT32."

  8. Click the "Start" button to begin the process of creating the bootable USB drive. Rufus will format the USB drive and copy the Ubuntu files to it.

  9. Once the process is complete, you will have a bootable Ubuntu USB drive that you can use to install Ubuntu on any computer.

  10. To use the USB drive to install Ubuntu, restart the computer, press the key (Usually F2, F12, Esc, Del) to enter into the BIOS/UEFI setup and change the boot priority to boot from the USB drive.

Note: This process will erase all the data stored in the USB drive, so make sure to backup any important files before proceeding.
