I basically knew how to code, but I didn't know I wanted to be a software developer...
I'd say I knew I wanted to actually pursue the career after starting another career path I really didn't enjoy compared to work I'd done with software, and then getting back into re-learning coding and finding success. Once I felt like I knew I didn't want to do the other thing and I did have the chops for this path, there wasn't much looking back.
I decided I wanted to be a "software developer" when I was in middle school and was 12/13, and I took an "IT" class that consisted mainly of learning how to use Microsoft office products.
From there I realized "computers are the future" and started to look more into possible degrees in "IT". While reading up on "IT" from wikipedia, I found "Computer Science" which I found to be fascinating, along with having good pay, and potential moving forward. I decided that would be my major then on out.
I got specifically into software development/engineering only once I was in college and realized building software is much more than just writing code.
I started to love computers and website making around 98 when I first copied a html Hello Word from a magazine and opened it on Netscape... However I spent almost 20 studying and pursuing a career as a Musician. It was only in 2018 that I got tired to working stupid jobs while trying to support myself with music and decided to go pursuing a career in something else I loved. Just completed my first year as FE dev. 🥳
How long ago ... around 1984 when I saw first arcade game machine. But being software developer is so many side works ... computer operator, ccg game designer, graphics designer, flash developer and now js FE developer in biotech startup.

It can be strange but because of JESUS I am a software developer and after it because I like it thanks again to him.
