How to make a attractive portfolio? (For Beginner)

I don't have a portfolio website (I guess this site sort of counts?) I see portfolios as being more of a designer thing than a developer thing. But it can be tricky to get a job with no example work under your belt, so here's some suggestions in no particular order:

• Form a team with a designer and put something together
• Volunteer for a good cause which needs a website or someone to work on their existing site (my first site was for the Internet Cafe where I used to work)
• Try some stuff out on CodePen and put that in your portfolio

The industry today is very different from when I started, so perhaps take this advice with a pinch of salt!
