Quick update for people who have been following our progress: v1 of ClassicPress will be a LTS version of WordPress 4.9 without Gutenberg so people can switch knowing their site won't break. v2 will diverge and follow a development track as decided by the community (with sensible checks and balances in place).
And now the time has come - you can NOW VOTE FOR THE CHANGE YOU WANT TO SEE IN WORDPRESS / CLASSICPRESS!

I love the idea to make the community choose what features to add next, but may I ask why would someone want to get rid of Gutenberg? Now, I haven't tested it yet but from what I have seen I do believe it is a great addition to Wordpress in general. Also, I don't think when Wordpress 5.0 with Gutenberg as default launches there would be any compatibility issues with older sites and even if there are, they have stated that the old (current) editor will be available to use. Anyhow, I would like to know if this decision(of removing Gutenberg) is pure habit-driven or are there some major flaws in Gutenberg?
I'd highly recommend trying it out - you'll probably discover why there are over 670 one-star reviews on the Gutenberg plugin.
It's not that a page builder is a bad idea (I use them on every site I make), it's that the implementation of Gutenberg is terrible and that it's being forced into v5.0.
The leadership at WordPress is not listening to consumer pushback and this is just another example in a long list of issues with the WordPress leadership. In essence, the community feels like decisions are made by an elite few and their voice is no longer heard.
This fork is bigger than just removing Gutenberg, it's to bring the platform back to the people.
Well, I would be happy to try it out when it launches:D
Thank you for getting involved - every voice matters
This looks like an incredible movement you've created! Hopefully you guys will be able to improve on a lot of the things that the actual WordPress.org team have been failing to do/slacking off on for years.
