Nowadays it really doesn't matter anymore. Some people still are used to typing it in front of everything though, so although you might use a 'plain' domain as your main domain name, make sure that www. still works, in case people type it!

 

If I remember correctly (need some checking, this source seems to confirm what I'm about to say),
the root domain should not have anything else set to avoid domain-based problems, such as redirection problems (e.g. redirection loops) or security problems (cookies setting problems).

 

I just came across this: netlify.com/blog/2017/02/28/to-www.... I will not claim to understand it all but it seems to come down to using WWW for the moment
