I just remember another one as a junior (already with some experience and a python dev but still a junior).

Security company, interview with founders and engineers, very secretive, they even talked about getting government clearance if hired. I heard stuff like "we're going to teach everything you don't know" and "don't worry, we're looking for smart kids"

I didn't like the vibe immediately even if the idea of becoming a security expert briefly appealed to me back then. I didn't like the team, they were smart asses, smart but also asses.

They even offered me 10k less than where from I ultimately accepted the job offer. I also had to get a car and drive one hour each way. A friend also tried to tell me "maybe you shouldn't work for them"

So, nothing clicked and I declined the offer.

Years later, a big scandal erupts in Italy and the world about a security company (not the same), Hacking Team, that sold surveillance software to regimes and dictators (and American police). Even countries they were not supposed to sell security software to because of strict international treaties. A shitshow ensues in the media.

I checked who the founders where. Well, two of the engineers that interviewed me at the first company 😬😬

I think I dodged a moving truck there.

I'm ashamed that I was like that. Then I realize how I started and how "I became what I swore to destroy", so now i put in others peoples shoes and try to teach everything. it's hard to start from zero and without guidence.
