MacBook Pro 14" or 16". Awesome battery and performance, unix based system β€οΈ. Just nice.
πThanks for your suggestion!
I got a Razer R17pro 32mb i7 11980 and 3080 RTX for Β£1999. Expensive but probably only 2/3 of equivalent MacBook. Comes with full metal chassis and is really solid. so far can't complain.
Previous machine was Asus ROG Strix GL703GS i7 16mb 1070Ti and from a spec perspective was fine but build quality was poor with plastic housing and after 4 years (hard use) finally gave up with an blown GPU

Aaron, do you run Windows or Linux on it? If the latter, have you run into any issues with Linux drivers and stuff?
W11. i'm a SQL server developer mostly with a bit of front end and python.
Do you use it for Gaming as well?
Razer laptops are solid for gaming performance, however the sleek design means limited airflow, and thus the battery overheats.
If you use it for gaming every day, you're gonna need a new battery in like 6 months. So I just take my battery out while gaming.
The Pro 17 is a sealed unit so no way to remove the battery. Full aluminium chassis should help with heat dissipation but yes, they do get hot, especially in top I7/3070RTX configuration.
Oof that's rough. I guess you'd probably want a laptop stand as well to help get more airflow, since the only vents are on the bottom.
if I get time then yes, Race Room VR
Also learning Blender and 3D printing this year as well as hoping to the a bit of video editing.
Actually, it depends if the Developer is Mobile Application Developer and using (REACT NATIVE or FLUTTER) then MACBOOK is Mandatory
Otherwise, if the Developer is working on WEB Development then Dell XPS Series and Thinkpad series latest laptops would be preferable

If I needed to replace my current laptop, my go-to would be frame.work/

Thinkpad T14s G3

The MSI Creator Z16. Thinner and lighter than the Dell XPS 17.

Honestly, I'd suggest a desktop instead. I've spent the past few years working on some reasonably good laptops (though not the very top of the line) and found them all to be severely lacking, either from CPU throttling, hardware glitches, small storage, and the inability to upgrade anything.
The Apple M1/M2 hardware is probably much better, and maybe I'm just unlucky, but I've found a high-end gaming rig has been significantly better in all respects (except portability). I'm using a Dell XPS Desktop now and it's been worth every penny.
Just my $0.02.
The lifespan on a desktop vs a laptop is no contest. The airflow also makes a load of difference in operation.
Hey though it's really not related to the question but is the MacBook air m1 good for web development and some extensive flutter work?
I use my M1 air for fullstack web development and it's been great. The only thing is I got an 8GB model due to budget, but would highly highly recommend going with 16GB+ for yourself. It's a great machine though
yeah, but in india you see it's kinda overpriced was thinking to go with high windows pc or try something new
it's overpriced everywhere :)
If you are into the apple ecosystem then they are fine, but you can get 50% more Windows/Linux PC for your money.
Yea I know that, but I want to feel how does a macbook feels like, is it different
M1/M2 is good for (almost) any development, just buy version with more memory.
I would even wait for any new M2 models being released in 2023, otherwise even considering going for the current M2 Air model. I myself hope to be soon able to get an 14β M2 pro model. MacBooks are fast, reliable and beautifully manufactured machines. I love the terminal, having learned working with it on a Linux server. I only saw windows users struggling with that kind of work.. though not everyone might.
Hey! I would suggest Macbook Air or Pro (depending on how much performance you want) for pure programming and development. Unix based system, great workflow, super battery life. If you're looking to also play a lot of PC based games, I would strongly recommend building your own PC, or buying a pre-built!
I'm currently using my 10 year old macbook air without any problems, still kind of suprised on how much this has lasted.
Apple doesn't ship garbage π€·ββοΈ
