What I Want from 2024

Do you ever experience déjà vu? For me, it's a regular phenomenon as soon as the calendar flips to the second half of December each year. Like clockwork, a voice in my head begins popping up—now and again—to ask, "What did you achieve this year?" The question shifts to its future tense form after the 1st of January, and typically, after a couple of weeks into the new year, the voice dies down, only to resurface again after 11 months.

This time around, it was different. The voice was present from early November itself, and I think it will remain there for quite some time. The question is also different: "What have you achieved till now, and what do you want to do?" Maybe my recent complications with my eye have a role to play in this, or the lack of satisfactory answers for the year-end voices, or maybe both—who knows?

Well, I have no answer for this changed question either, but I am willing to take a stab at a question with a reduced scope—after all, we love reduced scope, don't we?—"What do I want from 2024?"

If 2024 is listening—don't come at me for using "listening" when "reading" would have been more appropriate—here are the top 3 things I want from you:

  1. The light: To see a few steps—for starting something in the physical world—if the complete path is asking too much.
  2. The strength: To continue in the tech space by creating and launching new stuff—both free and paid—with at least one generating some revenue.
  3. The ability: To write and produce some quality content—mostly tech—and contribute to the community

No want is ever complete without giving something in return. So, what I'm willing to give in return for this?

  1. My 100% commitment and willpower
  2. My self—doubts
  3. My frustrations and anger

I know this may not seem like a fair bargain to you, but in return, you'll also receive a strong backlink from the future me: "2024 is the year that changed everything for me".

Of course, you may not always get what you want, and it's difficult to give or let go of the things that you have, but there's no harm in trying, is there?
