Do you happen to know if they use LiDARs on the cars during in-house testing?
Perhaps the confidence comes from their systems being able to predict all of the critical LiDAR information,creating an observable "virtual LiDAR" layer of abstraction?

I've seen no mention of LiDAR. Elon called it something like "an expensive crutch."
