I moved to Canada two years back to pursue my "Canadian Dream"- making the most out of life, gaining experiences and growing as an individual in one of the best places to live on earth. It was intimidating, I must say, as I was leaving not only my homeland behind but also my family, friends, and a managerial position in a well reputed government owned financing institution.
After coming to Canada, I started to sought career counselling from some of my friends who has already been working in Toronto for long. Luckily, most of them are software engineers who let me know about the booming tech industry in Toronto.
I knew the opportunities are great in tech industry!!! But is that enough to do well in a job?? I don't think so. You also need to have passion on something that you are going to do the rest of your life - right? That's why I got myself enrolled in a part time web development program at Juno College of Technology (formerly HackerYou) to see whether "coding is for me or not"; and the reason for choosing front-end web development? What can be a better choice for someone who has always been appreciated among friends for possessing good aesthetic value!
I won't lie. I was skeptical and scared at the beginning. But Juno helped me a lot (I mean a lotttttt!!!) to get through it. The best thing that Juno gave me is the confidence- the "I can do it"attitude. The instructors of Juno were always there for the students. Sometimes I wondered how all the people that work here can have a smiling face throughout the day! The environment really injected a great deal of positivity inside me as well. I was more into learning new things than just to submit the assignments.
I completed three projects in total during the course and each of them was stressful at the beginning. But the stress was worth it! When you build something from the scratch and see it working in front of you, it gives you a great feeling of achievement. It becomes something that you really care about and feel good about.
I once encountered a quote on internet- "If you really want something, work hard and never give up, you will find a way to make it happen". I am a strong beleiver of these words. In continuation to my love for coding, dedication for a promising career and reliance on Juno, I have started my Web Development Immersive Boot camp last week. I know there will be ups and downs but I am sure the experience will be amazing as I now belong to the most amazing community in the tech industry of Toronto.
