Patents take time and money. A lot of time. A lot of money. Unless the return on investment is worthwhile, it is better to spend your time/money focusing on differentiating your product via a better UX, customer engagement and feature additions.
If you have spent X years and Y dollars on doing the spadework to improve an idea - and now want to create a startup from it, it might be worth exploring if there is IP there but there are other things to check.
