Social skills for tech folks (?)

Hi all!

I'm trying to write down something about one of the most terrifying things to deal with for tech folks: social skills.

It is known that almost all of the people that work in IT prefer to interact with a machine rather than a human.

Am I wrong? What do you think about it?

Tell me a story about that time you struggled with talking/interacting with another human and why.

Which social skill is the most important to you? Why? Is it empathy? Maybe sincerity?

I look forward to hearing your answers!

In all my years working in software development, I have never met a single person that fits the stereotype of socially handicapped geek. That is not to say that everybody has uncanny social skills, but the average is not below the people I've met in other contexts.

I'd love to know where you got that from! I think it's BS.

I would say sympathy and compassion are most important. If you see your colleague stressed, you should offer some form of help :)
