devto unicorn confusion !

as a newbie to devto i had to look up what a unicorn post was on wikipedia and so initially assumed they were auto generated by devto !

HOW wrong could i have been ! on devto they are NOT ! you can even "use it as a subtle dislike button" ! @ben

https://dev.to/search?q=unicorn%20button

and sometimes its called the pony button ! so its actually a great (sic) example of a bad UI / UX

what do you use the unicorn button for ?

PS anyone remember the outrage when twitter changed their "like" button to a "love" button

There's been lots of discussion about the unicorn over the years. I haven't ever seen it referred to as a "subtle dislike button" by any of the Dev team though.

Here's Ben commenting on another Devs post with his thoughts on the unicorn and how positive it is.

Unicorns typically represent an especially positive connotation in our industry. Unicorn devs, unicorn companies, it’s the things that are wonderful.

Emoji reactions are always a bit abstract and I made no effort to dictate the purposes.

One thing to note: I’d like to have a longer list of reaction types you can choose from like in Slack, just haven’t gotten around to building that out, or even describing it to others.

Agreed! The unicorn button is my 'super like'. I don't use it often, but when I do, I really love the post.

I think it’s purposely left to your own interpretation.
