One... Thank God for version control. That said.. I tend to be transparent with colleagues who display bad form/behaviour of this kind especially the passive aggressive ones who find it hard to be just be honest. So be clear with them in a polite and honest manner. Eventually they always self destruct and show their true colours and either they play ball or they marginalise themselves till they have to leave the company.

So in short... pull "A" aside and explain that his behaviour is unbecoming and is a bad example for others. Then let him choose how to proceed after that.
