99% of Youtube content isn't worth watching, but I do like watching (and listening of course) good music on Youtube. And related to tech there's of course a lot of valuable content out there (tutorials, courses etc). Does watching Youtube make us dumb? Depends 100% on what you watch :-)
To stay informed about what's going on in the world (serious news), well Youtube, Facebook and any other sort of social media are of course useless and should be avoided like the plague. Instead, read online editions of serious quality media (newspapers which have real journalists working for them). Wikipedia is another great and reliable resource.
Nothing on social media can be believed or taken at face value unless cross-checked against other sources, the amount of fake news is simply too big.
Youtube for entertainment is okay, everything in moderation, as long as you don't overdo it it's fine.

I Agree with you Leob, Overdoing anything is never worth it.
I don't think content of any type makes people dumb, we consume the content we are drawn to, we would like to blame something to made us dumb, but is ourselves who chose to consume it. In old times "books makes children dumb" was a big thing, reading a book is too passive they said, gives the story already done and that will kill kids imagination, it was said about the movies, about videogames, music, etc.
Everytime a new media is born the same concerns arise. But the fact is that unless we are forced to, the content we consume is defined by us, now more than ever, I think that today the argument is even weaker, before we where kinda forced, you watched whatever was in the TV, nowadays we can choose, that gives more responsibility to the individual. If something modern media allow us to be as dumb as we are.
In the end we are not forced anymore to see things we don't want, and in some cases we where forced to educate, to see things we didn't relate to, we where forced to blend our view with others.
