Why shouldn't you learn programming?!

I saw many articles said "You should learn programming" or "You have to learn programming". But I decided to write an article and tell you why "You shouldn't learn it"

If you are not interested in programming, You shouldn't learn it!
If you are not interested in programming, You shouldn't learn it!
If you are not interested in programming, You shouldn't learn it!
If you are not interested in programming, You shouldn't learn it!
If you are not interested in programming, You shouldn't learn it!
If you are not interested in programming, You shouldn't learn it!

I copied this like 6 times for more focus.

Programming is a skill and many people like it and many people don't. If everybody liked to learn it, there wouldn't any programmers in the world and no one could make money of it.

You may interest in another field, You don't have to learn it if you hate it.

My 2-cents - I was not interested in programming when I started, I was more in to getting things on the screen and the programming was just a way to get there.
So I learned programming even if I did not have an interest in it, and now 10 years later it has been my full-time job for 7 years.

But I believe if you went to another field that you were more interested in, you would be more successful.

I am pretty successful if I may pat my old self on the head, but sure I have asked myself what would have happened if I made different choices.

Even if design and art is close to my hearth, programming have grown on me over the years and now I enjoy that part as well.

I taught someone programming because he asked me to. As the progress goes, I could tell he's not that interested in programming. He can't explore a simple thing by himself. I think he just afraid that this learning thing will be going to work. Well, I couldn't help him more if he keeps staying this way.

Yes, some people say "You have to learn programming" but it's completely wrong. It's a profession. It is like some say everybody has to learn all medical sciences.

I have multiple friends, who weren't interested in programming, but in the paycheck you could get. Needless to say, they gave up pretty fast.

Did they give up programming?

Yeah, and really, really fast. One guy even paid for courses which were quite expensive. Total waste of money...

So I totally agree, you need to be interested in programming to get somewhere. :)

I think this is like everything else in life, we need doctors, firefighters, engineers, devs, etc. Do what you love, life is short as it is doing a job you don't like or even worst hate.

  1. People can change their minds.
  2. Intrinsic drive can be manipulated.
  3. Even though so, talents vary.

I only agree with number 3. Talents vary. I know someone who spent a lot of money on learning programming but he didn't learn because he didn't like it actualy.

I saw many articles said "You should learn programming" or "You have to learn programming"

And most of them probably present a bunch of points to strengthen this idea

Don't they? I'll have to believe you, since you're not linking to any of these articles, but that is quite the bold claim to be making.
