Those are two different things. I don't dislike the effect itself, it just doesn't amaze me nor do I think will it amaze anybody else. It's also a bit arrogant to call ones own code "amazing".
I think it’s weird to call people out like that. Why can someone not be proud of his code? We’re all at different stages in our coding journey.
The effect is cool.
You can try to do it with just the "background" and "background-position" property and then compare them.
