I Turned My Startup Into Open-Source

I am posting a lot over dev.to, but I think nobody knows who I really am :)

For the last ten years, I have been playing the role of a full-stack developer and a team leader for various companies.

After six years of work, I decided I needed a change.
I quit my job and became a digital nomad 😎

Just a reminder that this was a pre-covid time, and remote working was not as today.

I was traveling with my friend without working, just relaxing, and I got a phone call from my previous company.

"Please come work for us. We will let you work part-time remotely."

Back in the day, that sounded like a dream - and it really was.

But quickly enough, I had too much free time, so I decided to do something!

I had a bunch of failed startups/projects.

Until I started Linvo 🎉

Linvo was a good and bad startup at the same time.
On the one hand, it gives a lot of value to sales and HR personas.
On the other hand, it breaks Linkedin T&S, and that can get you banned from Linkedin :(

I was determined to succeed and create revolutionary features such as the screen sharing app. It worked for a while but wasn't sustainable, and I didn't make enough money to live from it.

I flew back to my country to work for a few months in a coworking space on Linvo 2.0.

While there, I met two super interesting friends: Dima and Tomer, the founders of Novu.

Novu was not a big success back then, and we became good friends.
We talked about marketing, sales, and product. You name it.

And just when I was about to fly again to another country, they raised their $6.6M round for Novu 🤩
They changed their product from a marketing/product base to a developer one.

Just before they raised the money they offered me to join Novu, I said NO. I had to release Linvo 2.0 and see what happens.

And then I flew to Thailand and got a message from Dima asking if I had changed my mind. So I said maybe, but let me deal with Linvo a little bit.

Finally, after a while, I decided it was time to sell Linvo and go all in with Novu.

So while I am in multiple due diligence with buyers, I have decided to put some of the Linvo code out for open-source.

That doesn't benefit a lot to Linvo as a SaaS product.

But I feel it connects me more with the open-source movement so that I can learn a big part of it more!
