Phone cameras are made up of three main parts: the lens, the sensor, and the software.
The lens is what focuses the light that enters the camera. It is made up of multiple elements, which are usually made of plastic.
The lens helps to collect as much light as possible and to focus it onto the sensor.
The sensor converts the light that enters the lens into an electrical signal. The sensor is made up of millions of tiny light-sensitive cells. When light hits a cell, it creates an electrical charge. The sensor then converts these electrical charges into a digital image.
The software is what controls how the camera works. It is used to adjust the settings of the camera, such as the ISO, shutter speed, and white balance. The software also helps to process the image and to make it look its best.
ISO, shutter speed, and white balance are three of the most important settings on a camera. They are known as the exposure triangle.
ISO is a measure of how sensitive a cameraβs sensor is to light.
Shutter speed is the amount of time that the cameraβs shutter is open.
White balance is the setting that determines how the camera interprets the colors in a scene.
These 3 criteria are the focus of camera quality when a phone camera is manufactured.
Making a phone camera takes the following steps:
- The lens elements are made by molding plastic.
- The sensor is made by etching a pattern of light-sensitive cells onto a silicon wafer.
- The lens and sensor are assembled together.
- The camera module is tested to make sure that it works properly.
- The camera module is integrated into the phone.
- The camera module is integrated into the phone.
Here are some additional things to know about phone cameras:
The number of megapixels (MP) in a phone camera is not the only factor that determines image quality. Other factors, such as the size of the sensor and the quality of the lens, are also important.
Phone cameras can be used to take photos or record videos in a variety of lighting conditions. However, they are not as good as dedicated cameras in low-light conditions.

Wow interesting! What do you know about the software they use?
The Android (depending on phone manufacturer) and iOS operating systems have components of their code that controls the camera. This you often see as the default camera app. However third party apps e.g. ProShot offer more features and controls for the phone camera that makes shot quality better.
