Have you looked at Joplin? It is also a really nice alternative to Notion, and also Open Source.
Joplin's nice, but sorry it can't beat Notion. Their UI is perfect. :)
Have you got an exec summary on things Notion has the Joplin lacks?
I use Joplin extensively and am very happy. But I have no notion of what Notion does.
I can't give a review since I haven't used Joplin.
Here ya go: youtube.com/watch?v=oTahLEX3NXo
Something to take fromit is that everything in there is built using the same wysiwyg.
You can just type / and select any of those components to embed into the current doc or convert it to a kanban board etc etc.
OK, thank you. 👍🏻
Sure)
I don't think Joplin and Notion are the same kind of software to compare. Notion has databases and can turn them into different visualizations and Joplin is an awesome took for note taking. It's great to use it in meetings and classes, but it's not the same. At the same time, I also don't think AppFlowy is an alternative to Notion. I mean, Notion's free plan is a better alternative to Notion than AppFlowy. I think it's gonna take a long time to AppFlowy actually compare itself to Notion.
Not yet, but I'll take a look soon.
Though I don't use Notion as often as before now, I still use it mainly for journaling. For project management software, I now switched between Todoist and Quire. Because Notion only is not enough to use as project management software.
You've picked quite a challenge.
Have you typed "/" in Notion lately? you got A LOT of features to build out.
I love Notion, mainly i think they've absolutely nailed down the documentation interface and experience.
Btw, their mobile app works great, i don't know what mobile issues you've encountered but i've seen nothing major.
What are the data security issues you've found with Notion, and how does your new system improve on that? Genuinely curious here.
Best of luck with your project, they could use some good competition :)
The main security (privacy as well) issue in notion is that your content is not crypted and is inserted in their db as clear as you wrote it.
The main mobile issue I see is that it doesn't have an offline mode.
When's the last time you checked on that?
notion.so/help/security-and-privacy
As far as I know Notion is fully encrypted and as safe to use as any documentation tool out there.
Nothing of course is 100% because anyone who thinks that is just a hacking case waiting to happen.
As for offline mode, i guess that's an issue for some, but i get the feeling most people using Notion are connected 24/7.
note: i am not on their payrol lol, i just love the product and have had no issues with it in the 2+ years i've been using it.
Thank you)
I'm actually quite curious about the security hazards as well. Anything you can disclose or share with us on that?
For those still on the lookout, here is a refreshed list of Notion alternatives. Complete with a side-by-side feature comparison.
If you are using Notion for notes, it is better to check Logseq or Focalboard or you can also check Notion alternatives (open source)
Thanks
Have you heard about focalboard? it is a nice alternative to notion.so
Nice open source 🔥
Yeah, it's not OSS sadly. I use the free version and Syncthing for multiple devices. I'm looking into those others though, I've never heard of logseq and the others look interesting too. I'd greatly prefer using one that is open source!
If looking at an OSS alternative to Obsidian, Dendron is a good one to take a look at (also is local-first markdown files). I use Dendron on the Desktop, and the Obsidian mobile app if taking Dendron notes on my phone.
Dendron docs have a high-level comparison: Dendron vs. Obsidian
Flutter and Rust — what's it been like working in these stacks? Definitely seems like you're building something tight and performant in general.
To enterprises and hackers, AppFlowy is dedicated to offering building blocks, that is, collaboration infra services to enable you to make apps on your own. Moreover, you have 100% control of your data. You can design and modify AppFlowy your way, with a single codebase written in Flutter and Rust supporting multiple platforms armed with long-term maintainability.
I really like Obsidian, been using it for a while. It's kinda similar to these and also just uses the file system so it's super nice
Nice
Xmm, interesting)
Cool, but why AGPL and not something like Apache-2.0?
Worth mentioning Obsidian -- they have the sync option. a lively discord, a bunch of useful tricks and it all works in Markdown :) obsidian.md/
