I'm an ex-sysadmin from the late 20th century.
These days I do more Javascript and CSS and whatnot, and promote UX and accessibility.
It's not for creating files at all. That's just a side effect. People almost never want to create files manually, and the fact that people teach touch as a "must-know" command to "create files" always makes me sad.
