Why and how did you get to learn coding?

My dad signed me up for a computer programming class during the summer of 1986 or so. I didn't code much of anything. But as I discovered table top role-playing games and table top war games I started writing BASIC to "resolve" these conflicts.

But I didn't consider much of this until my days in university. I was getting a mathematics degree and they opened a major + minor called "Applied Mathematics and Computer Science"; I took just the bare minimum of comp sci classes (focusing instead on mathematics). I didn't think much of my programming until a job opened up, and I took it.

Turns out set theory plus systems thinking are super helpful foundations for writing software.
