How do you build connections as a student?

• Try to land an internship while in college, this will likely give you the best networking opportunity as you'll be embedded with those who are already in their career
• Attend in-person network events and conferences. Collegiate networking events is good, but try to attend events where the average attendee is already established in their career
• Join professionally-oriented clubs or fraternities while attending college. A couple that I joined during my undergrad was an IEEE society and Delta Sigma Pi, a professional co-ed business fraternity. Both yielded dividends with my network post-college.
• Consider participating with or joining a philanthropy organization. You may not encounter a lot of engineers at these, but you'll encounter professionals who work at companies that need engineers.
• Look for pro-bono contributor opportunities. This may have some overlap with philantrophy orgs.

I'm also a college student and in my last trimester, I want to attend coding conventions/meetings, but I don't have anyone to join me to go there. It's just that, I feel I might be out of place when I try to go there.
