My first post - Hi, dev.to

πŸ‘‹ Hi dev.to,

After many years, I've grown tired of working for other people and started a new journey towards financial independence last year. This community has been recommended to me, so I thought I'd say hi πŸ™‚

About me:

  • 🌍 Born in Berlin, moved to San Francisco in 2016
  • πŸ’» Coder, 🎡 musician, πŸ₯‹ martial artist
  • 🏒 Currently working for a very large software company
  • πŸš€ Working on my own AI software to gain financial independence

Would love to get in touch with other like-minded folks in this community!

πŸ“š Which blogs do you recommend?

πŸ“ What would you like me to write about?

Welcome πŸ™Œ that’s the best dev community around. Lots of marketing garbage and AI slop, but that’s everywhere now, so you just need to learn how to filter it all out.

I’d recommend you to follow the tags/folks you’re interested in and block the garbage (though the algos not ideal and it may pop up anyway).

As it’s a dev platform, I’d invite you to write about your work and know-how’s from the pr-pilot thingy you mentioned β€” would be quite interesting πŸ‘

Yea I've noticed a lot of AI-generated content here. Filtering that out seems challenging. Any tags or people you could recommend?

Well, that's totally random in fact β€” tags are totally up to you, but I'd avoid following "javascript", "beginners", "programming" and alike, as the most spammy topics. In terms of people, that's also random β€” the most interesting and mindful folks don't post regularly, but I like some posts from dev.to/logrocket, the newsletter issues from @urbanisierung, practical AI tutorials from @railsstudent and lots more β€” you just collect the gems on the way.

You can write about anything related to the tags you like... Whether it's a guide, or just a project showcase!

Blogs? Why are you talking about blogs? We don't need blogs where we're going. Reading blogs is a waste of time. Write it in PHP using Sqllite (lol) for the "backend" to the end user; it doesn't matter. Put it out there. Rinse, repeat rinse, repeat rinse, repeat. See what gains traction. Write some blogs, post a few videos along the way, see where there is interest, and move in that direction, even if it's the opposite direction. Don't reinvent the wheel. See further by standing on the shoulders of giants. Learn as you go, but go as you learn. Don't get trapped in tutorial hell.
