DEAR DEV.TO.......

So yeah guys it's officially been 5 months since I started posting on this amazing platform. I recieved overwhelming response from you guys. 14000+ views and 500+ reactions for 30 posts. And now I stand at 9100 followers. Just 900 away from hitting 10K. If I hit 10K I will make the best todo app in the entire world. Today I will be listing 5 features that Dev.to should add to beat youtube 😅. Let's begin the list

FOLLOWERS

I think dev.to should definitely bring the followers count into the profile. It will begin a competitive nature in the platform. I know that's what they want to avoid but yeah I love the followers count in youtube, Instagram and Facebook. Thats why I want this back

GALLERY

Next, we need a gallery of good posts that can be set up in the profile page. It would definitely be cool. So yeah, eyes on that dev.to

VIDEOS BETTERMENT

We definitely need a good video uploading system because yeah it would be cool

MORE ADS !

Users would not love this but this will bring a ton of new money. So, you can integrate more ads in the homepage, post page and the profile pages

MONETIZATION

If you have ads bringing more money definitely need to credit and give some amount to people who cross milestones. This will attract a ton of people

DESIGN AMPLIFICATION

There are some flaws in the dev.to UI so we need some better UI design. After all we all are developers right?

Thank you for reading and If dev team is reading this post comment whatever you would have in this platform.

I feel this is a bad list as Red Ochsenbein pointed out. Here is an apology

  • Followers are such a BS metric. Impress with your content and not with your (bought) followers.
  • You know you can pin articles in your profile, right?
  • We do have video platforms out there and I don't want dev.to to be that. I like reading. It's easier to reference stuff, and embedding videos exists already (while I skip video content on dev.to anyways).
  • More ads? No way! I'd rather be able to directly pay for the platform. Unfortunately Medium already showed us what happens to the content, when money comes into play. It just degrades into shallow click bait...
  • Monetization: No! Just no. It might attract more writers, yes. But the wrong ones, and combined with more ads it would keep more readers away.

So: No.
