What was your win this week?

Hey y'all! 👋

Hope everybody has an awesome weekend!

Looking back on this past week, what was something you were proud of accomplishing?

All wins count — big or small 🎉

Examples of 'wins' include:

  • Starting a new project
  • Fixing a tricky bug
  • Celebrating a birthday 🥳

A bunch of birds bobbing their heads up and down on a blank background with the words "Woot! Woot!" floating up above their heads

Turns out my content is doing REALLY well right now on my AI blog. I've not had a lot of time for blogging in January, but it's worked well!

  • Tried out trigonometric functions in CSS calcs - and created a semi-realistic fish: (the trigonometry defines the sinusoidal curves on the fish's back and belly). The browser support is poor - Firefox and Safari only, but still, it's glorious how simple it makes things.
  • Had some long and interesting exchanges with fellow bloggers. Even Twitter seemed less like a dead void this week.
  • Getting a hang of subdivision modelling in Solid Edge (CAD software we use at work). Still awkward, but definitely getting a feel of it, and getting things done.

How about "holy carp"? ;) And thank you! Still a WIP, I'd like to redo the colors - but it's been a real fun exercise

Hahaha! "Holy carp" is perfect. And oooo yeah, I bet you could do some cool stuff with the colors.

Been an exhausting week. Interviewed to 3 podcasts.

Moderated a panel at a conference. Talked at a local meetup, was supposed to talk for 50 minutes but took 90 and was cut off after 75% of the talk. But it was a great and very engaging talk.

Did a few new videos but not as much as I normally do but this one was nice.

My book is the number 1 new release on the debugging category.

Passed 1k subscribers on YouTube.

  • I survived the work week. This was the ultimate win for me. It's been a rough week.

Just gonna enjoy the weekend and try to recharge for next week.

I made some progress on a "Mortal Kombat Strategy" interactive strategy guide. That's a project I used to dream up when I was a kid and CD-Roms were cool. It has been a blast.

I also started a Substack to blog about lessons learned on the way and get some content out there for potential employers or clients.

It was a good week so I'm going to work ahead a bit for my tomorrow-goals. Then I'll make mixed drinks and enjoy WWE's Royal Rumble.

Thanks for the post. It's good to intentionally focus on the positive from time to time. Especially in today's crazy world of divisive politics, war, and the recent wave of tech layoffs.

Sadly got badly sick, but took advantage of the free time and built my first custom keyboard! (after around 2 years of waiting)

That's also why I haven't really posted a new article in a while, but hopefully will get back to it better than ever!

Hey Christine! Great to hear from you again here and congrats on your wins. 🙌

I think my big win last week was that I did a bunch of planning for the quarter.

One of my goals is to bring on many more trusted members and tag mods who can help us to enforce our Code of Conduct and better organize the site so that folks can find all the things they're looking for. Which by the way, would you be cool with me granting you the trusted member role? You've been so friendly to me here and to folks in the welcome thread (and other places on DEV also!). You seem like a really kind, helpful person — exactly the type of person that we like to give this role to. To be clear, we don't have any hard expectations, just that you continue to be kind and inclusive to others and report any spam or bad behavior on the site when ya see it. Let me know if you'd be cool with this!

I've started on a new project relating to Latin and Python!
I've also gone back to blogging and will hopefully be more active on dev.to again
