What was your win this week?

Hey everybody! 👋

Hope y'all all enjoy your weekends!

Looking back on this past week, what was something you were proud of accomplishing?

All wins count — big or small 🎉

Examples of 'wins' include:

  • Starting a new project
  • Fixing a tricky bug
  • Baking some tasty treats 🍪

a bunch of flamingos walking around together, the word "weekend?" appears again and again above different flamingos heads

  • picked up my studies again and started following my Udemy course (currently learning CSS)
  • Started a resume project using html & CSS
  • updated my actual resume
  • got my coding environments sorted out (sort of lol. I MIGHT be swapping distros again 🙃)
  • uploaded a new repo to GitHub and wrote an article about the experience. I was testing out ChatGPT.

I have completed my research perfectly. I thought I would miss the deadline, but thanks to ChatGPT, everything has been smooth since I found out about it. It has helped me a lot.

Super cool! I'm curious though, how do you go about citing sources for a research paper when using ChatGPT... or are you using it less for research/writing and more for generating ideas that you could then dive into and write about? In your example it kinda seems like the latter, in which case if you're just using it as a jumping off point, you're less likely to need to source things.

We have a "shoutouts" channel in our company Slack where I got not one but TWO shoutouts! 🎉 One from a direct report and another from someone else in the department where he included other members of my team as well.

I won't share the whole thing, but here is what I considered the biggest part of the win -

You all are always approachable, reasonable, motivated, solution-oriented, and positive.
100% how I wish to work with colleagues

We were reorged earlier this quarter and late this week finally felt like we had recovered from the shock of the transition and will ultimately be ok. 🧡

Finished writing the 3rd chapter of my new book. It's a huge chapter with 9k words... Published my new course and course platform.

Filmed seven videos for my new youtube channel. It started with no subscribers a couple of weeks ago and is seeing really great growth.

Holy crap! That's awesome news — I actually used to work at DZone a few years ago. I figured you might be familiar with them as I know ya frequently cover Java, but it's cool to hear it confirmed that ya are posting there. I loved working with the Editorial team at DZone and there were some great folks in the community... Anywho, major congrats!

I had so many pairing sessions. But my big win was when a newer dev paired to get me unstuck.

It's fantastic watching domain experts emerge!
