Maybe we can better word it as being modest. Also, if you abuse your status and treat people lower in the chain in a patronizing way such as sarcastic or worse, it really tells about that person's character.
I also mentioned, there are different types of smarts and pure 'smarts' is like more horsepower in a car but doesnt mean it can win a grand prix yet alone a championship :)
Besides, we must also acknowledge which I always try to do, not everyone is coming from same circumstances.
I may have had huge advantages over said person I possibly can't know, and him/her might have a whole bunch of other things going for them. Everyone is unique, so they should be treated as such.
Having said all of this there may be times, you may actually bang your head to the wall due to technical or intellectual capacity of a coworker. Even in those scenarios one is not allowed to be rude.
