IBM Developer NA West team had a great 2019, the team accomplished a lot. A big thank you to the team 💙. I want to share some of the highlights of what the team did in 2019. You can also check out the cool infographic below.
- 47 meetups. These are mostly lecture-style events where developers learn but without hands-on coding. Developers leave with many resources where they can continue learning about a particular technology. I shared earlier this year the difference between meetups and workshops: Active developers vs. awareness events, an approach we are trying
- 58 hands-on workshops. This is where developers bring their laptops, they code, build and deploy a (small) solution. I think this is one of the best way to learn and also see if a particular solution has value and solves your challenges. You can learn more why we love workshops: Active developers vs. awareness events, an approach we are trying
- 55 online meetups. Online meetups (webinars) are a superb way to provide developer education and scale. Developers from anywhere in the world can join the event (you are not limited to just one city/location). Recording of the meetup can be viewed by anyone, anywhere and anytime. A recorded online event has a lot of value after the actual event ended. You can view here all our online meetups in 2019. I shared earlier this year why we host online meetups: Using online meetups to scale your Developer Relations program. You can also read about an online digital conference IBM Developer hosted: Scaling Developer Relations with an online conference for developers
-
6 full-day developer summits. These are large community events where we invited speakers from various local companies and organizations. You can review the events here:
- AI & Machine Learning Developer Summit
- Blockchain Developer Summit
- Serverless Developer Summit
- IBM Cloud Education Summit (workshop-only format)
- Containers Developer Summit
- Kubernetes and OpenShift Developer Education Summit (workshop-only format)
- Our developer community. Our developer community is 8,630 developer-strong (as of writing of this blog post) and continues to grow
- 12 Lunch & Learns. We love hosting these mid-day events as they allow people who go home in the evening to learn during the day. I shared why it’s a good idea to try hosting Lunch & Learn events: Why you should consider hosting Lunch & Learn events as part of your Developer Relations program

This is great thanks for sharing, I had a dream of creating a program and in 2019 we launched our Developer Advocacy program. We've had a great first year and I love how you summarized your program and I'm using it as guidance for summarizing ours.
Thank you, Richard.
