While you might think that the technical side of selling products online is all about product descriptions, security features, and checkout functions, having the right design can be just as important. When customers compare your site to others in your industry, attractive design helps them decide whether or not to click buy or next on their browsers. This article looks at 10 podcasts that can help you do just that, whether you’re designing for an existing website or building one from the ground up.

What are the benefits of Web Design Podcasts?

If you’re selling anything online, podcasts can provide insightful information and inspiration for your business. Unlike listening to music or an audiobook where you are passively receiving content, podcasts provide a more interactive experience and the chance for interaction with other listeners. Podcasts also offer time management benefits by giving you the opportunity to multitask while listening- such as exercising, cleaning the house, cooking, or going through your inbox while learning from experienced professionals.

Web Design Podcasts are specifically helpful for people with knowledge in the web design industry because they are typically hosted by experts in the field and contain various topics that will interest them. These podcasts may focus on a particular topic like the responsive design or social media marketing, but there are also generalist ones too like The Web Ahead podcast that covers emerging trends in web technology.

1. Design Details

Design Details is a weekly webcast for graphic, web, and interaction designers. The show is uploaded every Tuesday at 10:00 AM Pacific to Design Details' website and podcast feeds. The audio-only broadcast features interviews with creatives who work in digital design and tips on how to do their job better. Guests have included everyone from Milton Glaser to Mike Monteiro.

2. ShopTalk Show

ShopTalk Show is a podcast about web design and online business. Hosted by Dave Rupert and Chris Coyier, the ShopTalk Show is one of the most respected podcasts in the field. The show covers both broad topics like responsive web design and niche topics like WordPress plugins. Topics vary widely, but you can always count on quality content when listening to this podcast.

3. 99% Invisible

99% Invisible is a deep dive into how the world works and will teach you how to see and think about things in new ways. Episodes range from soundscapes that re-imagine the city, to stories of emojis competing for space on your phone. 99% Invisible has over 250 episodes (as of this writing) and not one of them could be called boring. This podcast is so good it'll make your brain hurt--in a really satisfying way.

4. The Unofficial Shopify Podcast

The Unofficial Shopify Podcast is a podcast created and hosted by eCommerce veterans Nathan Barry and Braden Kowitz. They started the podcast because they were frustrated by the lack of education available on making money with eCommerce platforms like Shopify. It's a no-frills show, just two dudes shooting the breeze about building businesses using Shopify.

I really like The Unofficial Shopify Podcast because it simplifies Shopify for me and helps me break things down in my head about how I can get better results for my business. There's not a lot of complicated terms thrown around or strategies talked about - just guys who know their stuff talking about what's worked for them, what hasn't, and where they see improvements in the future.

5. CodeNewbie Podcast

This is a blog post about a podcast, CodeNewbie Podcast. CodeNewbie Podcast talks about programming and coding in detail, but with many different perspectives. Every episode discusses the ins and outs of what it's like to be a programmer who either just graduated from college or is new to the industry.

6. Front End Happy Hour

Front End Happy Hour is a web design podcast by three designers for designers. This show covers the tools and techniques in design, interviews with UX specialists and entrepreneurs, and the latest in front end development. It's a pretty good show, but there is definitely some room for improvement. Personally, I would like them to include more female voices in their episodes as well as talk more about how user experience impacts how users feel when browsing your website.

Another thing I would like is more resources being mentioned on the podcast so listeners can better equip themselves with what they need while they are listening to these episodes. All of these things will make this podcast much better and allow it to reach an even larger audience.

7. User Defenders

User Defenders is a software suite designed by and for online merchants. By connecting your business's emails, Google Analytics, website, and more- User Defenders helps keep you in control of your company. In this episode, Kyle introduces the podcast. Listeners will learn about what User Defenders does, why it was created, and how it differs from other security solutions like WAF or DDoS protection.

8. Design Life

Design Life is a weekly design podcast hosted by Laura Lynch. On the Design Life podcast, you can find discussions about news and trends in the world of design as well as interviews with people who are experts in their fields. They'll introduce you to topics such as innovation, illustration, architecture and more. Tune in every week for new episodes!

9. The Hustle Podcast

The Hustle Podcast is an online business based podcast that has a lot of big names in the startup industry such as venture capitalist and Y Combinator Co-Founder Paul Graham. Guests include Silicon Valley power players, tech execs and seasoned entrepreneurs.
The show highlights success stories and provides behind-the-scenes insight into what it takes to make it big in today's economy. There are also some very lively conversations about the real challenges of entrepreneurship like overcoming adversity and what it takes to win at life. Whether you're a startup founder looking for inspiration or someone who dreams of being their boss, this podcast is for you.

10. The Design of Business

The Design of Business is a show about design, business, and human-centered innovation. Hosted by co-host Ben Branam and his guests, the show explores topics like product design, manufacturing technologies, or distribution as they apply to building successful businesses.

Ben is an industrial designer with over 15 years of experience working in technology design and development. He has written over 6 books on product design including The Designer's Guide to Business which walks the reader through understanding their own value propositions and how that relates to managing the business side of the house in today's tough economy.

As you can tell from listening for just a few minutes, The Design of Business offers quality advice that comes from decades of experience in entrepreneurship and manufacturing innovation.

Conclusion
To sum it up, web design is imperative for your website's success. But, you can't just hire anyone! Have a professional guide you through the process and help you build your website. To promote your business and get others interested, it is essential to have a website that is updated and fresh.

If you're looking for a professional, who can help you design or update your website or manage the technical side of it all, be sure to hire a professional web designer in the UK who can ensure the highest level of professionalism.
