How do you manage your emails?

Keeping track of the emails and organizing them effectively is a crucial part of any successful business. The more control you have, the more you can focus on actually building stuff.

Most of developers actively use multiple email addresses, so it is important to create an efficient workflow to stay productive.

Could you elaborate on the following:

  • How many emails do you get daily (approx.)?
  • What email client/extensions do you use?
  • What are your tips to get them easily tracked and organized (notifications, tags, etc.)?

Personal

  • 5-10 emails per day (excluding spam, which GMail does a stellar job of catching)
  • GMail with inbox-reborn and Gmail reverse conversation browser extensions (I'm a contributor on the former)
  • Just a few simple labels, and the snooze feature help me stay on top of things. There are normally only 0-5 emails in my Inbox

Work

Same setup, but I barely ever look at work email as it is rarely used

Thunderbird with lots of folder sorting rules. I have 7 personal email address, 2 office mail address, and 2 address of my parents, set up. I subscribe to about 15 programming weekly newsletter.

I tried few other email clients, but thunderbird is still best. It is really shame that mozilla is sidelining it.

Around 40 mail / day in 4 different mailboxes

I use Thunderbird with 3 extensions:

and a few shortcuts:

  • hitting 'space' jumps to the next page / unread email across mailboxes
  • number = add tag / colorization of the email

what I'm missing:

  • minimize to tray

It depends on the day so it's way too vague. 1-15 emails per day maybe ?
With no extensions, I use Labels and filters to triage my emails easily.
