Yeah, I use HN regularly. I find the wide range of topics interesting to read. However, I hate most of the political content that hits the front-page as well as the endless discussion about the tech giants - so I hit the hide option for such posts. lobste.rs/ is a better community for programming related topics, no political content allowed :)
There's a great value in submitting your content on HN. If it hits front page, the traffic you get is huge. I've had some of my "Show HN" projects hit front page and it's been a big help for me personally. I've submitted blog posts too, but haven't had success yet. I'll keep trying though ;)
Thanks for the input! π Did not know about lobste.rs, will check it out π
how to be in front page of hn?
Submit your best works, read about similar posts that reach front page and pray that you're lucky. And keep trying, 1 hit out of 10 attempts is better than 0 attempts.
is lobste.rs/ only about tech?
Yeah, it's mostly about tech. You can see the topics here: lobste.rs/tags
I almost never go to Hacker News, but I see the appeal. It bubbles smart things to the top and has had some historically important conversations.
I can't get past how pedantic the average thread is and how toxic it can be at times.
It is inspiration both for good and bad for DEV and Forem. I hope we can aspire to unlock some of what HN offers intellectually while being more welcoming and healthy overall.
Well put π―π
Yes, we also post on Hacker News some content and the feedback is positiv, although I would say that HN is less 'social' than i.e. dev.to. Depending on the blog post, HN can result in a significant increase of your reach.
Yes, of course.
Every morning of every day. Moreover, I am so inspired that I am now doing a similar project with a different theme.
Yes often, but they blocked dev.to domain :(
What?! Why?
Not at the moment, but I do read Hacker News regularly.
Can i get link to hacker news please ?
