Like many I have watched Planet scale grow to become a great resource! Their YouTube channel is a great resource but with a free tier, there was always going to be risks
What is happening?
Their Hobby plan will be retired on April 8th, 2024 and they have decided to "part ways with members of our team (primarily Sales and Marketing)".
What's the reaction?
It's not good. Developers like free tiers. But they also understand businesses don't make money by using just free tiers. Planet scale has said that they want to make sure Planetscale is "not just in the short-term, but forever" and will be "prioritising profitability".
Also it's very passive for letting people go by saying they are going to "part ways with members of our team". 😬
What now?
Well the next month is going to be busy to transfer DBs from Planetscale or paying for their service (looks like it starts at $39)
What are your thoughts?

You should take a look at SingleStore free tier, it's pretty new, but pretty promising! It's not every day that you can use one of the fastest cloud-native database out there, for free 💪
If you end up trying it, do let me know if you have any doubts or feedback, as I was one of the engineers behind this feature 😊

BTW we built this tool to help migrate data from PlanetScale to SingleStore :)

And there is going to be a webinar about that tomorrow "How to Migrate from PlanetScale to SingleStore Free Tier in 5 Mins" events.singlestore.com/webinar-how...
What a bad PO, how about lower the free tier specs a bit or just put a lower entry price on the first paid plan. It would be so easy...
