Look in your local area for sites in a particular industry you have reasonable knowledge of, for example if you are into fitness look for personal trainers and gyms.
Then search Google for "personal trainers" in "your city / region".
Analyse their sites and see where you think you can help them and pick out 20 people to contact.
Then, (and this will shock you), pick up the phone and call them, let them know what problems you have come across and how you think you can help.
Don't be pushy, just explain the issues and see if they need help fixing them.
If you do that every day (call 20 local businesses) for a month you will have plenty of work!
Also if there are any business networking groups near you then join them (borrow the members fee if you don't have the money!) and practice explaining what you do and (more importantly) what problems you can help business owners solve.
Although it takes a little longer to build connections this way you will certainly find people will start referring you as you get to know them.
Last tip: look for businesses that have the same clients but do not compete. A prime example would be a computer repair shop or an accountancy firm. See if you can partner with them and offer referral fees (if appropriate, in the UK accountants struggle to take referral fees so I offer to give the money to charity on their behalf for example).
With those 3 things you can easily get plenty of work! Good luck, you can do it! ❤
Be careful how you spin this, calling out problems on a potential clients website can make them defensive, especially if they like what they have, it might be relatively new fx. :)
Look for things that can create business value for the client, fx. if we move this button then UX research shows it should have a positive impact on sales/conversion.
Or fx. i found that your site loads slower than what is recommended, if we improve that it should have a positive impact on conversion, and being found in google.
Explain it as something that brings business value for the client. :)
This is the best comment I have read in 2023.
I visited your Portfolio and your Github account just now. My man... I highly suggest that you update some stuff.
In your Portfolio, I suggest highlighting the technologies that you actually use to build a useful website. It's better to list React JS, Sass, and Tailwind CSS only and remove everything else, but you have 46 repos and I didn't check all of them so pick the technologies that you are familiar with yourself
In your Github, pin the repos that have demo links and that showcase your frontend development skills the best like the furne-store . These projects should also be featured in your Portfolio site
Update the look of your Portfolio site. You mentioned you're pretty good with frontend development but your portfolio kinda looks like a static html site. I'm not sure if you are still using this but it's best to update it because you can use your Portfolio and Github links when marketing yourself to clients. I know you're decent with frontend tech and you have knowledge with backend because I saw your submission for the atlas hackathon but your repo and portfolio doesn't reflect it that much
After that, try these websites: Upwork, Freelancer, & Guru
Also, try posting medias of your projects, portfolio, and github on your social media accounts. You may be referred to clients by someone you know.
That is all. Good luck!
Thanks @netervati.
I definitely update my stuff on my github account and my portfolio too.
Hi there, this post might fit better as a DEV Listing. It’s a dedicated area of the platform where community members and organizations are encouraged to publish information related to events, products, services, job listings, and everything in between.
Start reading the book Pyjama Profits by Varun Mayya.
Any References links?
