Being laid off is still moving up.

One of my closest friends told me:

If you're moving out, you're moving up

Honestly it's easy to put that it mind, but when it comes to dealing with it, it has it's own challenges.

I have to say. Residing in the Philippines has it's difficulty, whether it's keeping up with the latest technologies or with the news that's been going around in the world lately. Mostly being a developer/engineer here in the Philippines, whether it'd be on a senior level or at a junior level, we can't deny that we all have our limits to learning new terminologies, tools, frameworks, along with others.

One interesting topic that rose ever since the pandemic, is the recession that's been going around in the US, in which I have little context on. All I know is that I define it as a decline in cash, up until the recent layoff that I just went through. One day you're working in a company you value so much, then you get laid off the next. That really poked my curiosity as to what caused the massive layoff to the company.

I just learned that every company will have it's own cost-cutting phases and I just came across one on mine, which got me speechless as I discovered what it really means and how it would affect every companies.

There's also inflation going around in our country as well. Prices went up high, budgeting along won't cut your usual everyday expenses. Ever since that, I'm starting to come up with ideas on how I can put my money to work.

Though I'd love to elaborate on it even, but it's much better to keep it private since I have huge respect to the company. It's been a week, and I can honestly say that it's tough finding jobs and I'm very anxious about it. I'm still pushing through, asking people starting from making a decent resume to giving some bullet points on what to learn to land your next job.

Things I've learned

With so many things I wanted to do, I decided to start on one of them as I transition to the next one. This happened so suddenly, I wasn't able to prepare as much, but there's still hope. Meanwhile, as the week passed by, here's couple of things in which I want to share:

  • Being laid-off doesn't mean it's performance based. See here
  • Spend your energy not stressing about that job you just got laid-off for
  • You can spend a little more time on your hobby
  • Keep reading more books, whether it'd be related to work, self-help or just novels, keep your reading habit in motion
  • You can still connect with your workmates in the company
  • Stay calm and learn how you can do better each day

I do believe there's more going forward, but I can say these are still steps towards the right direction. I'm a firm believer that there's always a reason things like this happen. Maybe for me, it's rest and preparation for the next one. Meanwhile I will keep on pushing to be better.

By the way.. I've been a reader on this site for a long while, and I've decided to write my own this time. I still have no writing background, but still decided to deliberately try. This is my first ever post, and I hate to be that dude ranting every blog post moving forward. lol
