Hi! I’m Levi Sharpe, Senior Podcast Producer and Sound Designer at Forem.
I’ll be joining Nick Taylor and Christina Gorton on Friday, October 30th at 1pm EDT on thePracticalDev Twitch stream to talk about podcasting and what I do as a podcast producer at Forem.
I would love to answer any questions you have about producing podcasts, my current and past projects, and more.
For some context, I currently produce, edit, and mix DEV’s CodeNewbie, DevDiscuss, and DevNews podcasts. You can listen to them right here on DEV or wherever you get your podcasts!
Previous to working at Forem, I was lead podcast producer at Gizmodo Media Group, where I helped launch their podcast unit, producing and editing Lifehacker’s Webby-nominated podcast, The Upgrade, as well as Jezebel's pop culture podcast DirtCast and their politics show Big Time Dicks. And previous to that I worked at Marketplace, and mainly produced stuff for Marketplace Tech.
As a passion project, I sound design and mix the narrative fiction podcast Roommate From Hell, which is about a girl named Claire who moves in with a demon from hell, they become friends, and antics ensue.
I received my master’s from the CUNY Graduate School of Journalism, and other places his work has been featured include Marketplace Weekend, Codebreaker, Actuality, The Takeaway, Word of Mouth, and Popular Science.
Feel free to ask any questions you have about podcast production, the value of podcasts for developers, any of the DEV shows… or really anything in the discussion thread below!

From a technical standpoint, what does it take to put together a solid podcast? And follow up, since the pandemic, more folks are streaming (myself included) and doing podcasts. Any helpful tips for folks starting out?

HI LEVI! 👋 What's the number one mistake (in your opinion) that podcasters + podcast producers make when producing and creating new content? (and what should they be doing instead?)
What have you learned about technology since starting to work in this vertical?
Any suggestions for someone who wants to start podcasting?
