I think Uberspace is awesome, but not widely known outside of Germany. I like having total control over my website, including the served files. Github doesn't give me that.
Also, Uberspace is focused on privacy with disabled server logs per default, they give you an ssh user to a Cent-based system where you can do whatever you want, and it's on a pay-what-you-want basis.
