Starting a new career

I am 37 years old and have worked in the service industry as a server, bartender and restaurant manager for 20 years. I was advised by a good friend and ex-philosophy professor of mine that I might enjoy coding after he himself made the career switch.

What I have learned so far: I know very random things about computers! I am excited to learn things in a more systematic and in-depth way.

Something I already knew: You have to spend money to make money! Just purchased an external monitor that pairs with my laptop.

What I am looking forward to: Being so immersed in this world of coding that every time someone who is intimidated by the word "coding" tries to discourage me in the future (which has happened to me a lot--I think my regulars at the bar might just not want me to leave... and people hate change) I will be able to smile, nod and say, "Don't worry, I've got this."

Who says you can't change careers in your late thirties?
