After using Git and GitHub for quite some time, I finally got the opportunity to take the exam, thanks to a free voucher from GitHub. Here's my honest take on the whole experience:
๐ Exam Details:
โ 75 multiple-choice questions (60 scored + 15 pretest questions)
โ 120 minutes to complete it
๐ Study guide: GitHub Certification Guide https://github.com/AkshaySiwal/GitHub_Foundations_Certification_Study_Guide/blob/main/files/github-foundations-exam-study-guide.pdf
๐ง I prepped using Andrew Brown FreeCodeCamp course https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jdc0i7RcBv8
๐ฐ I used this code(USUUMWDS) at checkout, but I'm not sure if it's still valid https://examregistration.github.com/overview
๐ก What I liked:
โ Itโs a great way to refresh your Git and GitHub knowledge.
The exam touches on real-life scenarios that are actually useful for anyone
๐ What I didnโt love:
โ Some questions required memorizing tons of details (like knowing all 25 events that trigger GitHub workflows ๐ณ). Honestly, there's no way to remember everything.
I finished the exam in just 40 minutes, and I even skipped some questions. I was sure I had bombed it, but somehow, I passed!
๐ญ Final thoughts: Itโs a good refresher for Git/GitHub concepts, but if youโre not getting the exam for free, Iโm not sure itโs worth paying for. ๐ค
