For naming convention I will stick with maximum of 16 digits.
Example:
DVSC-PDS-GEN01
Starting with project name (2 digits), hostname (2), environment (1; D - development, T - testing, P - production).
Next will be OS type (2; WS - Windows Server, WW - Windows Workstation, LS - Linux Server and so on). Last part will cover VM role (2-3) and a number.
