Initially I was also hesitant to move, but really, AWS Cloud9 is not worse than Cloud9.io ever was, even better (more maintained).
And it's just as free as on c9.io.
I do my work in AWS C9 and today.

Visual Studio Code remote development service is coming around, it will let you connect to a remote container from your dev box and you can do pretty much everything that cloud9 was capable of doing it.

VS Code is available on every platform and it is free.
