Best cafés to meet cool people in Berlin

50 coffee meetings

An all-time favorite career advice of mine is Why You Need to Take 50 Coffee Meetings.

Mark Suster writes that drinking coffee will boost your job hunting prospects:

You’re a candidate. You’re thinking about your next big gig. You want the primo role. Hot company. Senior title. Lots of responsibility. The moment a big job is advertised you’re fawked. Why? Cuz there are 20 people who have the exact qualifications as the job spec will suggest. But they don’t have your hustle, your energy. You won’t land the big jobs unless you’re in there shaping the discussion about what the company needs, convincing them that they need you before they’re even ready to hire.

This takes 50 coffee meetings.

You know the drill — “informational interview.” Life is an informational interview. Everything you do applies to this lesson. Yet too many people never do it. They sit and wait for job specs to be posted on job boards. Or whatever the equivalent metaphor is for any other parts of their business.

I loved this article: being French, I am very good at drinking coffee. And I never realized before that this was a major competitive advantage 😄

Betahaus Neukölln is now workish with Kantine café. Other places in Neukölln include Café Elsken (Kiehlufer 75), K-Fetisch (a pun on "Kaffeetisch", the German word for coffee table) at the intersection between Weserstrasse and Wildenbruchstrasse, Holy Coffee (Sonnenallee 132), Pêle Mêle (Innstr. 26), Geschwister Nothaft Café (Schwarzastr. 9, opposite of Sonnenalle train station), Heart Space Coffee (Urbanstr. 70a near Hermannplatz) the café of Heart Space Members' Club Coworking (temporarily closed due to ongoing construction works), and - last but not least - Impact Hub Berlin (Rollbergstr. 28a) inside former Kindl brewery area, opposite Café Babette (Am Sudhaus 3).

Betahaus Kreuzberg (Rudi-Dutschke-Str. 23) is still up and running, and of course there are several cafés and coworking spaces in Kreuzberg and Mitte, including the famous pioneers Sankt Oberholz on Oranienburger Strasse, not far from Google Campus Berlin.

Heading south west to Schöneberg, don't miss Coffee Pony (Richard von Weizsäcker Platz 4, next to Kaiser Wilhelm Passage on Hauptstraße in 10827 Berlin), New Yorck Coffee (Bautzener Str. 40 near train station Yorckstrasse / Großgörschenstrasse), and if you are looking for a resident coworking space, tuesday coworking has several locations in the West, including a cozy former appartment on Feurigstrasse.
