I went through using the search and clicked the bookmark "add to reading list" icon, and it changed to purple, for several posts. Then, I clicked "DEV" at top left.
Nothing in my reading list.

It seems like there is a bug on the search page. Thanks for bringing this to our attention. You are using the feature as expected.
Fixed the issue @jessachandler , change will be live once all caches have cleared.
